Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint has announced he is having his first child with long-term girlfriend and actress Georgie Groome.

Groome, 28, is known best for her lead role in the film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and has been dating Grint since 2011.

The couple announced the news on Friday, and a representative said: "Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are excited to announce they are expecting a baby and would please ask for privacy at this time."

The 31 year-old actor shot to fame in 2001 when he was just 12 as the first Harry Potter film was released. 

He played Ron Weasley in all eight films of the franchise alongside Daniel Radcliffe's Harry and Emma Watson's Hermione Granger.
