Bruce Springsteen labels President Trump ‘anti-American, buffoonish and stupid’ and insists he is a threat to US democracy

American rock star Bruce Springsteen has labelled President Trump a ‘threat to democracy’ ahead of the election in November.

Trump will look to secure another four years in office when US citizens head to the polls to choose between himself and Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

And Springsteen points to a clip from earlier this month which shows Trump’s team using tear gas to clear away protesters as a sign of just how dangerous he believes the current President could be.

Speaking to The Atlantic, he said: "I believe we may have finally reached a presidential tipping point with that Lafayette Square walk.

"(It was) so outrageously anti-American, so totally buffoonish and so stupid, and so anti–freedom of speech. And we have a video of it that will live on forever.

"I believe that our current president is a threat to our democracy. He simply makes any kind of reform that much harder.

"I don’t know if our democracy could stand another four years of his custodianship. These are all existential threats to our democracy and our American way of life."

Trump has been widely criticised for his response to the coronavirus crisis which has seen over 2.4 million Americans contract the virus and more than 123,000 fatalities.

The President has also been accused of passing out misinformation such as advising members of the public to inject disinfectant as a potential cure for COVID-19.

Earlier this month, a poll from opinion analysis website FiveThirtyEight found Trump has the highest disapproval rating of any President at this point in office, with just 54 per cent of Americans happy with the job he is doing.
