Peter Kay to make first TV appearance in two years for Covid-19 fundraising show

Comedian Peter Kay will make his first TV appearance in two years when he joins a host of other top names for a coronavirus fundraising show.

Children in Need and Comic Relief are joining forces for the charity spectacular, Big Night In, which will be shown on April 23.

Sir Lenny Henry revealed Kay's return on The One Show: "We've got special guests, some famous faces. I can tell you today that Peter Kay is joining us.

"Catherine Tate and Gary Barlow, with lots of musical guests. It's going to be a fantastic night. We want to cheer people up in this terrible crisis."

Henry said: "Children in Need and Comic Relief are merging for the very first to time to raise money and raise spirits.

"Even if you can't donate, just watch because it'll cheer you up."

The news comes a month after Kay had to postpone his comeback tour, Dance for Life, due to the pandemic.

At the time he released a statement on his website: "Obviously this is disappointing news but well and truly justified given the circumstances.

"We'll get through this, together and then we'll all have a great big dance for life. Stay safe and look after yourselves and the people around you."

It was another blow for fans after he cancelled his stand up tour three years ago due to 'family reasons'.
