Singer Rick Astley has promised to host a free concert to thank all frontline NHS and emergency staff for their tireless efforts battling the coronavirus pandemic.

The 54-year-old shared the news on Twitter with a video announcing the October 28 concert at the Manchester arena.

In the video, the 'Never gonna give you up' singer said: "Hi there, I’m Rick Astley and I’m here to announce that I’m going to be doing a concert for the NHS, all the Primary Care givers, all the frontline people, the blue light people.

"It’s on the 28th October in Manchester at the MEN Arena. It’s free to you guys because I just want to say a massive thank you and I don’t know how else to do it."

He added: "You’re doing an amazing job, the whole country thanks you. So hopefully we’ll see you there, we’ll have a fantastic night."

The star promised to put his all into the concert in the same way the staff have worked relentlessly to battle the epidemic.

"I’m going to work my butt off to give you a great night and so will my band.

"We’ll see you there, thanks a lot," he added.
