Is micro misting the future of skincare? We test the Reduit One device

01 February 2021

The Reduit One applicator promises to revolutionise at home skincare, using microtechnology to mist your skin with potent ingredients, while at the same time cutting down on waste and potentially saving you time. But does it deliver?

Here’s everything you need to know about the Reduit skincare device.

How does the Reduit One work?

The Reduit One Skinpod Applicator is a beautifully designed device that sits snugly in the palm of your hand. It uses 10p-sized skincare pods (each providing up to 40 applications) to administer a fine mist of product to your skin.

The micro-misting technology means that the formulas are more highly concentrated than traditional skincare products – 38 times more efficacious according to Reduit CEO Paul Peros.

The pods come with lids, so you can swap them in and out. They cater to a variety of concerns, such as dehydration and ageing, so you can, in theory, go through an entire skincare routine with the applicator – starting with the cleanse pod, then using toner, serum and finishing with a moisturiser.

Reduit claims a more even and spa-like application, plus 20 times less packaging waste thanks to the tiny pods, which use less plastic than the usual bottles, tubes and tubs – ‘reduit’ means ‘reduced’ in French.

How easy is it to use?

The process is super easy and takes about a minute per pod, including the time to switch between them. You remove the pod’s lid, insert it into the applicator and twist it slightly until you hear a click. The product is delivered to your skin in the form of a fine mist. It vibrates when you need to move it to a different part of your face (a bit like an electric toothbrush).

The mist feels refreshing and light on the skin and the timer means you get a very even coverage. You can manage how long you use it for by switching off the applicator, rather than waiting for it to switch itself off.

The routine does require a degree of reprogramming your habits. Instead of reaching for bottles you’re swapping pods in and out of the applicator – but it doesn’t take long to get used to this. And you will have to remove your make-up with a traditional cleanser first – the Reduit Clean Vapor pod is only suitable for a second, deeper cleanse.

The verdict

The Reduit One feels luxurious, from packaging to pod – think Apple design for your skincare routine. It’s intuitive to use, and is both small and beautiful enough to earn its spot on the bathroom shelf.

The biggest benefit of the device was that I didn’t need to touch my skin, so there was no slathering of layer upon layer of lotions and potions, nor any risk of being too rough on more delicate areas of skin. It’s also more hygienic.

This is a completely different way of thinking about skincare, so it would’ve been useful to have had more information included with the applicator, and if the pods were clearer about which should be used as serums and which as moisturisers – the names, like Hydro Boost and Pearl Diffusion, aren’t that obvious.

It would also be great if more brands produced pods so there’s a wider range of treatment choices – maybe if the device takes off, we’ll see more introduced in future.

Ultimately, £189 is a lot for a beauty gadget, but if you want to get serious about skincare – and sustainability – the Reduit One might be worth the investment.
