Jimmy Kimmel to host 2020 Emmy awards in September

US television host Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the 2020 Emmy awards on September 20.

It will be the first major Hollywood awards ceremony since the coronavirus pandemic began, but details of how it will be held have not yet been announced.

The 52 year-old is also producing the event which will mark the 72nd annual awards.

He wrote on Twitter: “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it.”

It is not the first time he has hosted the event which celebrates the television industry, he also hosted in 2012 and 2016.

Nominations for the Emmys will be announced in late July by the TV academy.
