Kate Garraway set to see husband for first time in four months as he continues fight for his life in hospital

TV presenter Kate Garraway will see her seriously ill husband Derek Draper for the first time in four months today when she visits him in hospital.

Draper contracted coronavirus back in March and went into a coma where he stayed for three months.

Garraway and Draper have been married for 15 years (PA)

The 52-year-old is now coronavirus-free and came out of his coma earlier this month, but the damage the ordeal has had on his body was described by Garraway as ‘extraordinary’.

She has been unable to see her husband face-to-face since he went into his coma due to the lockdown and social distancing restrictions.

But now, thanks to the lifting of more restrictions, the nurses have granted her permission to go and see Draper.

She also revealed that prior to her visiting him the nurses have ensured he will have Good Morning Britain on in the hospital, which she returned to presenting yesterday after three months away.

Speaking on GMB, she said: "I might be able to go and visit Derek after the show today and in fact the nurses are going to put Good Morning Britain for him today.

"They’ve got a TV and they’re putting it on this morning, obviously we don’t know what he can hear or see.

"They didn’t realise I was on air yesterday, but they’re going to put it on today and see if there’s any reaction.

"We’re trying anything at the moment."
