Self-isolating pensioner receives heartwarming gift from his local pub

A pub in London has cheered the spirits of a self-isolating regular by delivering a barrel of his favourite beer to his front door - just hours before the Prime Minister called time on pubs across the UK.

Ninety-year-old regular Cyril had been following government advice to stay at home amid the coronavirus outbreak but his local, The Empress in Hackney, wanted to ensure he could still enjoy his favourite tipple without being put at risk.

Workers from the pub delivered a full keg of Truman’s and a full box of crisps for him to work his way through while stuck at home.

The gesture from the east London pub is another in a long line of neighbourly actions being performed around the country, including free accommodation, food donations and offers of assistance.
