Steve Irwin's daughter, Bindi, gets married 'without guests' before entering coronavirus lockdown

Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin, has married her fiancé Chandler Powell hours before going into enforced lockdown.

The 21 year-old wore a long while dress with lace sleeves as she walked down a makeshift aisle under a canopy of white umbrellas in the gardens of Australia Zoo in Queensland.

Bindi and Chandler had been planning the event since they announced their engagement at the same location in July and it is believed her brother Robert,16, walked her down the aisle in place of their father, who died in September 2006 when a stingray barb pierced his heart.

The wedding had to be a small and intimate affair after Prime Minister Scott Morrison introduced rulings that only five people could attend the wedding, including the couple.

Alongside the photo she wrote: "March 25th 2020. We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now.

"We've planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn't have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe.

"We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.

"Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history."

“I do really wish that dad was here to be able to celebrate with us as a family," she said.

“I think in some ways he is and his spirit lives on in everything that we do, and I always feel closest to dad here at Australia Zoo.”
