13-year-old boy from Brixton believed to be youngest coronavirus death in the UK

A 13-year-old boy from Brixton has died from coronavirus. He is believed to be the youngest victim of the disease in the UK.

Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab died at King's College Hospital on Monday morning having first showed symptoms of the virus on Thursday.

A statement from a family friend said: "We are beyond devastated. To our knowledge he had no underlying health conditions."

He experienced breathing difficulties on Friday and was immediately rushed to hospital where he tested positive for the virus.

He was then put into a medically-induced coma but died on Monday.

Mark Stephenson, college director at Madinah College, in south-west London, where Ismail's sister works as a teacher, has set up a fundraiser to raise money for the funeral costs.

A statement on the page said Ismail died "without any family members close by due to the highly infectious nature of Covid-19".
