That ‘70s Show actor Danny Masterson charged with three counts of rape

That '70s Show actor Danny Masterson has been charged with the rapes of three women after a three-year investigation, say Los Angeles prosecutors.

All three alleged cases are said to have happened in the early 2000’s. The charges were filed on Tuesday.

He is charged with the rape of a 23 year-old woman in 2001, a 28 year-old woman in early 2003 and a 23 year-old woman in late 2003.

Police did not bring charges against two other cases they were investigating.

If convicted, he could face up to 45 years in prison.

The alleged rapes took place at the height of Masterson’s fame. He peaked in That '70s Show, a sitcom which also starred Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, and ran from 1998 until 2006.

The actor’s attorney Tom Mesereau said in a statement: "[Masterson] is innocent, we’re confident that he will be exonerated when all the evidence finally comes to light and witnesses have the opportunity to testify.

“Obviously, Mr Masterson and his wife are in complete shock considering that these nearly 20-year old allegations are suddenly resulting in charges being filed, but they and their family are comforted knowing that ultimately the truth will come out.

“The people who know Mr Masterson know his character and know the allegations to be false.”

Masterson has been married to fellow actor Bijou Phillips for nine years.
