A look ahead to huge clash between Harlequins and Saracens in Premier 15s

The hotly anticipated clash between Harlequins and Saracens in the Premier 15s will take place at the weekend after it was postponed earlier this month.

The game is one of the biggest in the women’s rugby calendar as Quins continue to try and stop the defending champions’ domination. Saracens have defeated Quins in both Premier 15s finals that have taken place.

Both clubs will look to get the win over their rivals and fans can watch the game as it is being streamed on the Premier 15s website and social media channels.

Both London clubs are so far unbeaten in the league and so, unless it is a draw, one club will be robbed of their perfect winning streak.

A key game that displayed Saracens’ winning mentality and resilience was against Wasps.

The defending champions completely dominated the first half of the match and headed into the break 33-3 up. However, Wasps hit back hard in the second half to make the score 33-27 with just a minute to go.

The team kept their composure and saw out the match to maintain their streak.

While Saracens can hold onto their lead once they have it, Quins haven’t had games where they are fighting to stay in them and they have been more solid in their matches.

They demonstrated the damage they could do against DMP Durham Sharks at the start of the season when they demolished them 105-0.

Both clubs’ performances so far this season has set up a mouth-watering game for fans.

When the two clubs play each other it is always a battle. Since the league’s foundation in 2017 Saracens have beaten Quins five times and Quins have defeated Sarries twice.

That stat will sting for Quins and it will hurt even more when they look back to last season’s fixture where they let go of a commanding lead over their rivals.

Quins came out of the blocks firing and caught Saracens  off guard to clock a 24-7 lead at half time. However, Sarries made sure they made up for their errors as they came back to beat Quins 33-27.

Quins players still speak of the pain of losing that match and so this weekend’s battle will be their opportunity to get revenge.

Key players

The team sheets will be released on Friday ahead of Saturday’s match but there are a few players who will be instrumental for their clubs.

Harlequins - Jess Breach

Wing Jess Breach is always a key player for Quins as she is a try-scoring machine.

If the ball ends up in Breach’s hands it is more often than not that she is about to score and points on the board is what they will need against the defending champions.

Saracens - Lotte Clapp

Clapp’s captaincy has been impressive at Sarries

Sarries captain Lotte Clapp is integral to the side as not only does she get on the end of tries but she also rallies the team when they are floundering.

Her leadership is part of the reason they manage to cling onto leads and why they have claimed both trophies in the league’s history.
