Alana Cook joins OL Reign for NWSL Challenge Cup on loan deal

US international Alana Cook has agreed a loan deal with National Women’s Soccer League club OL Reign.

Cook has signed from French club Paris Saint-Germain but the terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Her move means she will be available for the club for the NWSL Challenge Cup which will begin on June 27. The league aim to complete their season in a month with 25 games scheduled over 30 days.

“Alana is a player we’ve been following for many years. We are excited to have join the squad, if only on a short-term basis,” said OL Reign CEO Bill Predmore.

“We very much appreciate PSG allowing Alana to join for the tournament in Utah. Alana will add both depth and quality to the squad, which will be critical given the short rest between matches in the preliminary stage of the NWSL Challenge Cup.”

This secures another player for the tournament for the club as athletes are not obligated to play in the tournament. Reign star Megan Rapinoe is already said not to be taking part and full rosters for all nine teams will be revealed soon.

And Cook said: “I’m super excited to join OL Reign for this season and this tournament.

“I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for myself to continue to develop and get better. I’m super excited to join such a great team environment and a great culture.”
