Great Britain's Alyson Dixon has won the 50km World Championships in a new world record time in Brasov, Romania.

This was her first ultramarathon but the 40-year-old showed no sign of nerves, leading from the start and completing the course in three hours seven minutes and 20 seconds, smashing the previous record of 3:08:39 set in 1989 by South Africa's Frith van der Merwe.

Fellow Brit, Helen Davies came home in second place (3:09:16) just ahead of Alicia Perez of Spain. Both Dixon and Davies finished inside the previous British record of 3:15:43 set in 2010 by Sue Harrison. 

Not content with one record, Dixon will take to the roads again for the Great North Run next weekend as she aims to become the fastest superhero to complete a half marathon. The champion will be dressing as wonderwoman as she raises money for St Benedict's Hospice in Sunderland.

Bearing in mind this is only six days after her incredible 50km achievement, it leaves us wondering if there's anything this wonderwoman can't do.
