Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema says she will continue to improve on WSL scoring record

After scoring 52 goals in 50 WSL games, Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema says she’s only getting started.

But the league’s record goalscorer admits she has fierce competition in the league and Manchester City’s Ellen White proved that yesterday as she took her tally to 50 with a brace in City’s 8-1 thrashing of Bristol City.

Miedema told BBC Sport: “It’s obviously amazing to do it at home especially scoring against Spurs. I think it’s a record that’s still really open with a lot of players still currently playing and I hope I can just keep scoring and keep improving that record.”

She added she looked up to Arsenal and Holland star Robin van Persie when she was growing up.

"He’s exactly the type of striker, not a typical number nine, clinical but also creating chances for others, technically really good, reading the game and that has definitely help me develop to the player I am today.

“I watch every single game that is on TV which my family and my friends got quite annoyed about at one point but I just love it.”

Miedema and Arsenal will be back in WSL action today as they take on Manchester United at 2.30pm.
