Aspen Ladd withdraws from UFC event after double injury blow

UFC star Aspen Ladd has been forced to withdraw from next week’s UFC event after tearing both her ACL and MCL in training.

The 25 year-old bantamweight fighter was scheduled to fight Sara McMann on June 27 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas behind-closed-doors.

The initial event was due to take place in Austin, Texas but was relocated due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But now the American with a record of 9-1 could be out for three to nine months, and will find out next week if she will need surgery.

According to sources, organisers of the event are yet to find a replacement to fight McMann.

Ladd, who is currently third in the women’s bantamweight rankings, said on Instagram: “Unfortunately, for the first time in my career I'm being pulled due to injury. This is me right now, finally home after an #mri today and a long talk with a very good doctor.

“I have 2 grade 3 tears and a couple other injuries going on. I'll know later this week if surgery is in my future, but hope to be back in the cage before the end of the year. Honesty is the best policy so here you go, sucks because I feel phenomenal otherwise.”
