Newly-promoted Women’s Super League club Aston Villa have signed Portugal international Diana Silva.

Silva is joining from Portuguese club Sporting CP and also has 58 caps for her country.

Villa head coach Gemma Davies said she was excited to see the striker in action.

“We’re very excited about Diana. She’s a young, energetic forward who’s very technical and likes to drive at players 1v1,” she said.

“We’ve picked up a young talent who’s been doing very well with her national team and scoring goals.

“We’ve been monitoring her progress since before lockdown and we’re really excited that she’s finally an Aston Villa player.”

This comes after the club signed two other stars to bolster their squad ahead of their season in the WSL.

Former Chelsea defender Anita Asante and ex-Birmingham City player Chloe Arthur have been named ahead of the 2020/21 season.
