Bafta 2020 TV Awards: Chernobyl steals the ‘virtual’ show
Chernobyl and Stath Lets Flats were among the big winners at the virtual 2020 Bafta TV Awards last night.
The annual event saw no red carpet or live audience and the winners accepted their prizes virtually, with comedian Richard Ayoade as host.
Chernobyl, the dramatisation of the nuclear disaster at the Ukraine plant in 1986, took home two gongs for the best mini-series and Jared Harris for best leading actor.
Stath Lets Flat also won two awards for best male performance in a comedy programme played by Jamie Demetriou and best scripted comedy.
Also taking home two gongs was The End Of The F***ing World for best drama series and best supporting actress for Naomi Ackie.
Glenda Jackson won leading actress for her performance in Elizabeth Is Missing while Sian Clifford took home the best female performance in a comedy programme in Fleabag.
The sport award went somewhat controversially to the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final when England lost against South Africa, leaving England cricket hero Ben Stokes unimpressed as England had won a dramatic Cricket World Cup final just four months earlier.
The traditional review of those who had ‘left the stage’ during the past year proved particularly emotional as Caroline Flack was featured. The 40 year-old TV presenter tragically took her own life in February.
