Billy Joe Saunders fined £15,000 but avoids suspension after domestic violence video and shocking Chris Eubank Jr tweet

Billy Joe Saunders has been fined £15,000 for posting a video appearing to condone domestic violence and an X-rated tweet to rival Chris Eubank Jr.

A video from the 30-year-old surfaced at the end of March which showed him using a punching bag to demonstrate how men could hit their female partners if they argued during the lockdown.

His licence was immediately suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control and he was subsequently found guilty of misconduct at Wednesday’s hearing.

In a statement, the British Boxing Board of Control said: "Billy Joe Saunders appeared before Stewards of the Board on Wednesday, 22nd July 2020 due to recent comments made on Social Media.

"Following consideration of Mr. Saunders explanation, the Stewards found Mr. Saunders guilty of misconduct and have fined him £15,000 to be donated to charities.

"The suspension of his boxer’s licence has been lifted."

Although the fine appears to be in relation to the domestic violence video, Saunders also landed himself in hot water for a tweet he sent to Eubank Jr.

In response to Eubank calling him a drugs cheat, Saunders responded with a vulgar tweet about Eubank’s mother.

This is not the first time Saunders has caused outrage after posts on social media.

In 2018, he was fined £100,000 for posting a video showing him offering drugs to a drug addict.

Saunders was due to face pound-for-pound start Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May before the coronavirus pandemic caused the fight to be cancelled.
