Birmingham and Manchester United both look to build on impressive victories in the Women's Super League

The Women's Super League is heading towards its final weekend round of matches before the three-week Christmas break.

Here, as ever, we continue our daily round-up of another enticing programme.

Today we are looking at Manchester United's trip to Birmingham as Casey Stoney's side bid to enter the mid-season hiatus in an impressive fourth place.

Birmingham vs Manchester United

Two goals from Lauren James proved instrumental in United's first half turn around against Everton last weekend.

They ran out 3-1 victors and with it secured a fifth WSL win of the season.

But they have won just once away from home - at Tottenham in mid October - which is a record they will need to improve on if they are to maintain their high position in the WSL.

Meanwhile, Birmingham look to have seriously suffered from the departure of Ellen White as they have failed to build on their fourth place from last season.

White scored six goals in eight appearances in the 2018/19 WSL campaign for The Blues before departing for Manchester City.

Subsequently, their first eight games so far this season have seen them win just twice, scoring a lacklustre five goals.

Marta Tejedor's side sat worryingly close to Liverpool at the foot of the table before last weekend, but a much-needed 2-0 victory against Bristol City will give them confidence.

However, this is a much sterner test and one which United will be confident they can come out on top in.

The match kicks off at 2pm on Sunday and will be available to watch on the FA Player app.
