Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a brief appearance when fiancee Carrie Symonds judged an online Conservative lip sync battle on Friday evening.

As one of the opening events for the virtual Conservative Party Conference, politicians danced along to songs from stars including Taylor Swift and Britney Spears.

Ms Symonds told contestants she was looking for “drama and epic dancing” as she appeared from her living room in Downing Street, alongside a barking Dilyn the dog.

During the evening, Ms Symonds was interacting with the call so loudly that the Prime Minister went to see what the noise was.

He appeared on screen next to his fiancee to say hello, wish the contestants luck, and thank the organisers.

The event was organised by the LGBT+ Conservatives, who told the PA news agency they were “thrilled” with the success of the evening.

Edwina Currie faced off against Andrew Boff, singing Rise Like A Phoenix by Conchita Wurst, while MSP Jamie Greene performed Toxic by Britney Spears.

However, Dehenna Davison took home the virtual crown for her performance of Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, competing against Ben Everitt.

LGBT+ Conservatives said: “Wigs were donned, tunes were blasted, and moves we didn’t think possible were pulled by our colleagues.

“The night was made even more special by the participation of head judge and LGBT+ ally Carrie Symonds, who judged proceedings with the expert eye of an X-Factor veteran.

“We look forward to hosting more lip sync showdowns, and thank everyone who has donated to our charitable fund to elevate LGBT+ Conservative candidates in future elections.”

The event raised more than £400.
