Boxer Billy Joe Saunders apologises for video 'advising' men how to hit women during lockdown
Boxer Billy Joe Saunders has apologised after he posted a video showing men how to hit their partner during the coronavirus lockdown.
The 30-year-old two-weight world champion uploaded a video demonstrating with a punchbag how to 'hit her on the chin' and 'finish her off' .
But he has now come out in defence of his own character, stating that he would never hit a woman and saying sorry to those who he offended.
Speaking via Twitter, he said: "I would never condone domestic violence and if I saw a man touch a woman I would smash him to pieces myself.
"I have a Daughter and if a man laid a finger on her it would (not) end well. Apologies if I offended any women stay blessed x."
Saunders was close to finalising an agreement to face Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in las Vegas on May 2 before the coronavirus pandemic.
Now the fight has been pushed back until at least June, but it is unclear whether Saunders will even get the fight as it is rumoured Canelo has agreed a deal to fight Gennady Golovkin in September.
