British Airways pilot starts new job as Tesco delivery driver after being out of work due to coronavirus

A British Airways pilot has started a new job as a Tesco delivery driver after he was forced out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Peter Login has swapped the Boeing 747 for a delivery van to help drop off food to people in Britain during lockdown.

And he wrote in a tweet, that has received over eight thousand likes, that he was 'back in the cockpit'.

Members of the public were quick to praise him,  with one saying: "Thanks for doing your bit to help those who need it. Hopefully you'll be back in the skies very soon."

Another added: "What an absolute superstar you are. That dogged spirit & can-do, will-do attitude will get us through this, yours is such a great example."

While another asked: "Are you as speedy in one of those as you are in the air?" To which Login replied: "Not quite - it only has 1 engine instead of 4."

Login used to work for Thomas Cook for three years before the airline went bust last September.

It was there that he met his wife, Marianne Whiston, who used to work as cabin crew, but is now working on the coronavirus frontline at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

BA announced last week that all flights from London's Gatwick Airport and London City Airport were being suspended, with a drastic cut to the timetable at Heathrow.

Pilots were told to take a 50 per cent pay cut for three months and to take unpaid leave for two weeks in April and May.
