British cyclist Vicky Williamson has announced that she will be switching sports from cycling to bobsleigh after returning from a three-year injury break.

The 26-year-old made her return to the sport in January after injuries sustained in a horiffic crash in Rotterdam in 2016 but is now seeking a new challenge on the ice.

"I'm sad to be moving on from cycling, but I'm excited about what could happen in bobsleigh," she said.

Williamson made her return to the track in January alongside Katy Marchant, with whom she finished 14th in the team sprint at the Track World Championships in Poland.

She said: "My crash in 2016 changed my life and although it has inhibited my ability to excel to the top of the sport, my athletic capability has still allowed me to continue in elite sport."

Norfolk-born Williamson fractured her back and neck, dislocated her pelvis and slipped a disc after colliding with Elis Ligtlee during the final of the omnium at the Six Days of Rotterdam event.

She knows the accident could have left her paralysed and had to undergo extensive rehab in order to regain lost feeling in her lower left leg.

Williamson has not yet said whether she will bid for an Olympic spot for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
