Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers pick up big wins on Christmas Day

26 December 2020

It was blowouts galore across the NBA on Christmas Day, with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers among the teams to record big wins.

In just their second outing together, the all-star combination of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant looked unstoppable as they led the Nets to a 123-95 win over the Boston Celtics.

Although Boston did well to hang with Brooklyn early, even taking a 54-51 lead into half-time, the Celtics ultimately found themselves at the mercy of the Nets’ overwhelming offence.

Irving and Durant combined for 66 points as Brooklyn continue to set the early pace as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.

Jaylen Brown led the scoring for Boston with 27 points, to go along with eight rebounds.

Meanwhile the Lakers looked every bit of the reigning NBA champions as they cruised to a 138-115 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

After a close first quarter, Los Angeles pulled away from Dallas in the second and never let up from there.

Anthony Davis top-scored for the Lakers with 28, while LeBron James added 22 points and 10 assists.

Luka Doncic led the way for Dallas, posting 27 points, four rebounds and seven assists.

The Miami Heat bounced back from a defeat in their opening fixture of the new campaign with a comfortable 111-98 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Duncan Robinson equalled an NBA Christmas record with seven three-pointers. He hit four in the first quarter and added two more in the second as the hosts raced out to a 23-point lead.

New Orleans fought back to within six points in the fourth quarter, but Miami rallied to close out the victory.

The Milwaukee Bucks also recorded their first win of the season as they comprehensively beat the Golden State Warriors 138-99.

Khris Middleton led the way with 31 points, while Steph Curry had 19 points for Golden State, which moved him up to second in the franchise’s all-time scoring list.

And the Los Angeles Clippers rounded out the day’s action with a 121-108 win over the Denver Nuggets.

Paul George finished with 23 points and nine assists for the Clippers, while Denver’s Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray combined for 47 points in a losing effort.
