Chris O’Dowd describes Imagine video as ‘creative diarrhoea’ and admits ‘backlash was justified'

Comedian and actor Chris O’Dowd has conceded that the backlash to the now infamous Imagine video was ‘justified’.

The video, which was led by actor Gal Gadot and included the likes of Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon and Amy Adams, was a collective song which aimed to bring solidarity to people around the world.

However, it was panned by those across social media and O’Dowd, who did his line with wife wife and writer Dawn O’Porter, has now admitted it was ill-judged.

Speaking on Louis Theroux’s Grounded podcast, he said: "In terms of my interpretation of it, I think the backlash was justified."

The Irishman also revealed he was asked to take part in the video by his Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig, who also contributed to it.

"I’ll do anything Kristen asks me to do so of course we just did it. It took five minutes, didn’t think about it. I presumed it was for kids," he added.

"We were in that first wave of creative diarrhoea that seemed to encase the entire world."

O’Dowd is the second actor involved in the video to speak about their involvement in the video.

Earlier this month, Jamie Dornan told the Tea With Me podcast: “It’s a funny thing.

"Not being on social media, I wasn’t really that aware of the negative reaction, but I was made aware quite quickly by some mates. It was early on in the lockdown process."
