Conor McGregor was left ‘crying and devastated’ after defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor was left ‘crying and devastated’ in his dressing room after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, a new book about the Irish UFC star has revealed.

The Notorious One tapped out in the fourth round against the Russian champion after a largely one-sided affair two years ago.

And now a book by French journalist Charles Thiallier titled ‘Obsessions’ has described the moments after the bout were.

According to The Mirror, it read: "Conor tried to get into my head during the weigh-in.

"But I was not impressed at all because this is something we do in my country.

"Conor stayed on the ground for a few minutes. He was crying and he was completely devastated.

"I had to go to his dressing room to try to cheer him up and he was still crying when I got in."

The build-up to the fight had been full of trash talk and violence and that continued after the bout when Khabib jumped out of the octagon and attempted to attack one of McGregor’s team.

McGregor did not fight for 15 months after the defeat, but returned in January of this year in emphatic fashion as he destroyed Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in just 40 seconds.

But six months later the Irishman announced his retirement from the sport for a third time in his career.
