Italy death toll continues to rise

368 people died from the coronavirus yesterday, the highest number for a single day in the country.

A total of 1,809 people have now died from the virus in Italy.

Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic self-isolates

Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has self-isolated in Miami after showing symptoms for coronavirus.

He said: “Since Tuesday, started feeling not right. I already had shortness of breath and my immune system was low and run down.

“I’m currently in Miami and isolated away from everyone, as advised. I’m yet to be tested for it (COVID-19) but I have all the symptoms.”

New York and LA begin to shut down

Overnight New York and Los Angeles have both decided to shut down bars, restaurants and other public places in a bid to combat the virus.

NWSL training moratorium

The National Women's Soccer League has extended their team training moratorium until March 22.

The league has urged players to stay in their own 'markets' to stop the spread of the virus.

Italian FA call for Euro 2020 to be postponed

President of the Italian Football Association Gabriele Gravina has urged UEFA to postpone the European Championships this summer.

Speaking on TV, he said: "We will propose that Uefa postpone the European Championship.

"We will try to get to the end of this championship [Serie A] because it is fairer and more correct after the many investments and sacrifices of our clubs."

UEFA is to conduct a video meeting with representatives from its 55 countries on Tuesday in a bid to discuss all domestic and European competitions.

It has been widely reported that one option could be to postpone Euro 2020 until next summer.

Olympic boxing qualifiers to continue behind closed doors

The Olympic boxing qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 will go behind closed doors as of Monday.

The event got underway on Saturday and continues until March 24.

Prior to the decision, European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) president Franco Falcinelli said: "In my opinion it's very strange that England - and the competition - is open at this hard time.

"Many of them (the athletes) may have problems coming back because many national airlines are stopping. For example, there are no flights from England to Italy."

Premiership rugby expected to be delayed

England's top flight of rugby is expected to announce a suspension to the league in coming days.

The Pro 14 and Top 14 have both been suspended.

Some clubs believe it will mimic the Premier League and suspend the league for a month, though others believe it could be up to 12 weeks.

Horse racing set to go behind closed doors

Horse racing could go behind closed doors within the next 48 hours according to the chief of Arena Racing.

Martin Cruddace told Sky Sports: "We are outliers with other parts of the racing world, but I think we should be prepared for an imminent change.

"My own personal view is that could be within the next 48 hours."

Deaths in the UK rise

The number of deaths in the UK has risen to 35, confirms the Department of Health.

There are 1,372 confirmed cases in the UK.

Vitality Superleague postponed

The Vitality Netball Superleague has been postponed with immediate affect.

The Superleague board will meet on Tuesday to discuss the plan for the season ahead.

As a result the three remaining matches to be played in round four of the league won't take place this evening.
