Coronavirus latest: Tube set for Saturday timetable as Londoners cut back on travel

Athletics postponed

Queensland Track Classic has been postponed.

The event was supposed to go ahead on March 20.

Queensland Athletics Chief Executive Officer David Gynther said: “The Track Classic is a very important meet for our athletes and for Olympic qualification, we looked at numerous options to hold it safely, but determined the risk to athletes, staff and particularly to our many elderly officials was too great.

"We will be doing our best to reschedule it as soon as we can. This is unchartered territory, but we will be doing everything in our powers to ensure this meet and the valuable World Ranking points that come with it are available in the future."

UFC London moves to US

UFC London has moved to the US due to travel restrictions.

US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that his travel restrictions imposed on Europe will now also apply to the UK.

UFC president Dana White said: "The fight can't obviously continue in London, but it will go on."

Italy's confirmed cases increase by 20%

Italy, the worst affected country in Europe, have confirmed that the amount of confirmed cases in the country has increased by 20% overnight.

This means Italy now has just over 21,000 cases with 1,400 deaths.

France implements restrictions.

The French government have imposed restrictions to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Schools ave been closed, workers have been asked to work from home and they have banned gatherings of more than 100 people.

Despite the restrictions, they do plan to carry out their nationwide municipal elections today.

France have 3,600 confirmed cases.

Spain goes into lock down

Spain's government have implemented a similar lock down to Italy in an attempt to prevent the coronavrius spreading in the country.

People are now only allowed to leave their house to commute to work, buy groceries and medicine, go to hospital and banks or to take trip to care for the elderly.

Schools and universities have closed as well as hotels, restaurants, bars and other non-essential retail establishments.

The government has said that the country now has 5,700 cases with 136 deaths.

UK coronavirus deaths double in 24 hours

Ten more people in the UK have died from the coronavirus as figures double in 24 hours, with the total number of deaths reaching 21.

All patients who tested positive were over the age of 60 and had underlying health problems. 

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says Tokyo 2020 will go ahead

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will still go ahead as planned, says Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

He said: "We will overcome the spread of the infection and host the Olympics without problem, as planned."

The International Triathlon Unions suspends all competition

The International Triathlon Unions has suspended all competition until April 30. 

This will mean all world rankings, Olympic and Paralympic qualification rankings will be frozen. 

ITU president Marisol Casado said: "This is a decision that is hard to take and... we are taking it with the health and safety of athletes, coaches, officials, facilitators, staff, volunteers and spectators, all the triathlon family, as the top priority."

Australia v New Zealand one-day international series postponed

The international series between Australia and New Zealand has been postponed. 

Australia won the first match on Friday but was played behind closed doors. 

And the visitors have returned to New Zealand due to travel restrictions.
