Cricketer Emily Smith banned from Hurricanes for posting team line-up early

Hobart Hurricanes cricketer Emily Smith has been banned from playing for three months after she posted her team's line-up on Instagram before it was due to be announced.

The 24-year-old broke Australia's anti-corruption code as she uploaded the team sheet an hour before it was meant to be released.

The Australian accepted a year-long ban but nine months of the punishment have been suspended. The ban means the wicketkeeper will miss the Big Bash and the National Cricket League.

The match in question was Hurricanes' clash with Sydney Thunder, which was ironically called off due to poor weather.

Cricket Australia's head of integrity and security, Sean Carroll, said Smith had no intention of breaking the code but that players are 'well aware of the obligations'.

Carroll said: "There is no excuse for breaches regardless of the reasons for information being disclosed.

"Since the commencement of the WBBL, Cricket Australia has had in place a robust anti-corruption program.

"We have been working with Emily throughout the process and Emily now understands the mistake she made.

"We hope this serves as a reminder to all that the anti-corruption code is critical to protecting the integrity of the game."
