Cristiano Ronaldo hotel denies reports it is being turned into hospital during coronavirus pandemic

A hotel belonging to Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has denied reports that it, among others owned by the Portugal captain, is being turned into a make-shift coronavirus treatment centre.

The Pestana CR7 hotel in Lisbon was rumoured to have been converted into a centre for people affected by the deadly virus but a spokesman for the hotel rejected the claims.

"We are a hotel," a spokesperson told RTL Nieuws, "we are not going to be a hospital.

"It is a day like everyone else, we are and will remain a hotel.

"We are being phoned by the press. I wish you a nice day," he added.

Ronaldo, 35, has been in self-quarantine in his villa in Madeira since team-mate Daniele Rugani, with whom he shared a dressing room last Sunday in their closed-doors 2-0 victory over Milan, tested positive for coronavirus.

Ronaldo has since been passed fit and not having contracted the virus, but remains in his villa alongside girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.

He took to Twitter to share a message of support and solidarity with his fans.

"The world is going through a very difficult moment which demands the utmost care and attention from all of us," he wrote.

"I speak to you today not as a football player, but as a son, father, a human being concerned with the latest developments that is affecting the whole world.

"It is important we all follow the advice of WHO (World Health Organization) and the governing bodies on how we handle this current situation.

"Protecting human life must come above any other interests.

"I would like to send my thoughts to everyone who has lost someone close to them, my solidarity to those who are fighting the virus, like my team-mate Daniele Rugani, and my continued support to the amazing health professionals putting their own lives at risk to save others.”
