Danielle Collins ‘dismissed’ from World Team Tennis tournament for breaking Covid-19 rules

US tennis star Danielle Collins has been dismissed from the World Team Tennis event in West Virginia after breaking Covid-19 rules.

The 2019 Australian Open semi-finalist and world No 51 had been competing for her team Orlando Storm.

WTT CEO Carlos Silva said in a statement: "We have dismissed Danielle Collins (Orlando Storm) for the remainder of the 2020 World TeamTennis season after breaking our COVID-19 protocols and leaving The Greenbrier Resort and the state of West Virginia.

“The protocols have been put in place and communicated numerous times to protect the health and safety of our players, coaches and staff which are of utmost importance to WTT.”

The tournament started on July 12 and is being played over three weeks at the Greenbrier resort.

It is one of the only sporting events in America where fans are allowed to attend at 20% capacity.

Participants are being regularly tested and are having temperature checks.

Collins, 26, has not made a statement and her Instagram account has since been deleted.

Australian Open 2011 champion Kim Clijsters, seven-time grand slam winner Venus Williams and 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens are also competing at the event.
