Deontay Wilder’s manager has confirmed the American heavyweight will take the contracted trilogy fight with Tyson Fury later this year.

The Bronze Bomber has gone quiet over the last few months, leading the likes of promoter Eddie Hearn to question whether he was planning on passing up the chance of a third fight with Fury.

But Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel has now quashed those rumours in a brief, concise statement.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he bluntly said: "Deontay will fight Fury this year."

Wilder has not spoken personally about the defeat since March when he implored people not to lose faith in his ability.

He told his Instagram followers: "Don’t count me out just yet, a true champion faces adversity and comes back stronger."

Then three days later he added: "Counting down the days until we are back in the ring. We will rise!"

Meanwhile, Fury appears to have a number of fights in the pipeline providing he is victorious in the third fight with Wilder.

The Gypsy King reached a ‘financial agreement’ with Anthony Joshua last month for two all-British fights in 2021.

And Fury also has the matter of his WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, who he has to fight before February of next year.

Speaking about Whyte getting his shot at the title, The Body Snatcher’s promoter Hearn said: "We want Dillian Whyte to fight Tyson Fury as soon as possible, and if Wilder is not available for any reason then Dillian should step in and take that."
