Disney postpones release of Mulan, Star Wars trilogy and Avatar films due to coronavirus pandemic

Disney have delayed the release of Mulan, the new Star Wars trilogy and all four Avatar sequels due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The new live-action Mulan was originally due to be released in March but was then pushed back to August.

And now the re-make of the 1998 classic has been postponed indefinitely as a result of disruption caused by the pandemic.

A Disney representative said: "It’s become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis.

"Today that means pausing our release plans for Mulan as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world."

The upcoming Star Wars trilogy has also been affected by COVID-19.

A first of three movies was initially scheduled for December 2022, but that has now been moved to December 2023.

All four Avatar sequels have also been delayed and given new release dates.

The first of the new batch will now come out in December 2022, with the others following in December 2024, December 2026 and December 2028.

Written and directed by Canadian James Cameron, the film became the highest-grossing movie ever at the time of its release.
