Donald Trump bundled out of press briefing by security staff after shooting outside White House

A shooting outside the White House led to President Donald Trump being urgently evacuated from a press briefing on Monday evening just minutes after he began speaking.

“There was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don’t know the condition of the person,” Trump said after he returned to the briefing room shortly afterward.

“It was the suspect that was shot,” Trump added. He said that no one else was injured, but that it was his understanding that the suspect had been armed.

The briefing room was placed on a lock down immediately after the president exited, according to a pool report. Trump said he was taken to the Oval Office.

Trump said that he was not shaken by the event.

“Do I seem rattled?” he said. “The world has been, you look back over the centuries, the world has been a dangerous place, a very dangerous place.”
