Donald Trump’s national security adviser Robert O’Brien tests positive for coronavirus

Robert O’Brien, national security adviser to Donald Trump, has tested positive for coronavirus.

The White House says it has ensured the 54-year-old contracting the virus poses no threat to the health of either the President or Vice-President Mike Pence.

A White House statement on Monday read: "(He has) mild symptoms and has been self-isolating and working from a secure location off site.

"There is no risk of exposure to the President or the Vice President. The work of the National Security Council continues uninterrupted."

The White House was also quick to point out Trump and Pence were both regularly tested.

O’Brien’s positive test comes just weeks after he flew to Europe for meetings in the UK, France, Germany and Italy.

Other White House officials who have previously tested positive for the virus include Pence’s press secretary Katie Miller.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, another member of Trump’s team and the girlfriend of his son Donald Jr, also contracted the virus earlier this month.

More than four million people have now tested positive for coronavirus in the United States, far more than any other country in the world.

The current death toll stands at 149,864 as of Monday.

Restrictions in states such as Florida and California have been re-imposed in recent weeks due to the rising infection rates.
