Eddie Hearn says drugs cheat Jarrell Miller still owes him for payments prior to cancelled Anthony Joshua fight
Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed disgraced drugs cheat Jarrell Miller still owes him for payments he received in the build-up to the cancelled Anthony Joshua fight last year.
Miller was due to fight Joshua in June 2019 in New York, but the bout was called off when the American failed three drugs tests for three different banned substances.
The money Miller had already received from Hearn for the fight was set to be paid back from the heavyweight’s purse he got for his comeback fight on July 9.
But he then failed another drugs test meaning his return bout is off and Hearn remains out of pocket.
Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said: "He was due to make good money. He had a sign-on bonus from Top Rank and [James] Prince, I believe, which he’s probably gonna have to repay.
"He owes me money. We were getting paid [from] this fight [for] the money he owes us from the Joshua fight.
"The up-front payment that we gave him, which he has to return, because he failed a drug test."
Miller has maintained his innocence despite the succession of positive drugs tests which have now built up against him.
He told Fight Network last month: "This is something that was ingested. We don't know if it was contaminated, but we're investigating as of right now. Me and my team are just working due diligently to get the facts 100 per cent straight.
"I have never ever willingly take a steroid for performance enhancement purposes. Did I take something for healing properties, for injury, yes I have. Before a fight to win a fight and during a training camp, no, I have never done that.
"Nobody can be more outraged than me. I'm the one that's lost millions of dollars. I'm the one that's had his career on the line.
"But I have to think about it with a straight mind. I have to figure it out. Sit down with my team. Get everything in order and get everything done in the right way."
