England Netball lose final test match against South Africa, but win series 2-1

England's netballers were beaten 54-48 in the final game of the international test-series against South Africa but still won the series 2-1.

In the knowledge the Roses had already won the best of three, it was a chance for new head coach Jess Thirlby to make some changes.

Shooters George Fisher and Sophie Drakeford-Lewis formed a new partnership in the circle and defender Kate Shimmin made her first international debut.

The Roses trailed at half-time 27-21. Thirlby changed the line-up again, bringing on senior players Kadeen Corbin and Fran Williams.

But the Spar Proteas held out until the final whistle, with goalkeeper Phumza Maweni forcing 27 turnovers.

The next stage of both teams' international cycle is in January at the Vitality Nations Cup, with New Zealand and Jamaica joining them.
