F1 team helps create breathing aid for coronavirus patients
Mercedes Formula 1 have teamed up with University College of London to create breathing aids for coronavirus patients.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) breathing machines are in use in hospitals already but the NHS does not have enough to treat all their patients.
Mercedes and UCL collaborated to keep patients out of intensive care by creating - in under a week - the equipment that supplies oxygen without a ventilator.
Forty of the new devices have been delivered to London hospitals and up to 1,000 CPAP machines could be made daily to meet demand.
The apparatus, which has been used in both China and Italy, has already been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
