The White House has hit out at Facebook and Twitter after they censored the President’s comments that children were ‘almost immune’ from Covid-19.

Donald Trump’s press secretary Courtney Parella said he was ‘stating a fact’ and has accused the social media giants of 'flagrant bias'.

She said: "The President was stating a fact that children are less susceptible to the coronavirus.

“Another day, another display of Silicon Valley's flagrant bias against this president, where the rules are only enforced in one direction. Social media companies are not the arbiters of truth.”

Trump made the claim during an interview with Fox and Friends when he was explaining why ‘schools should be open’.

He said: "If you look at children, children are almost - and I would almost say definitely - but almost, immune from this disease.

"So few, they've got stronger, hard to believe, I don't know how you feel about it, but they've got much stronger immune systems than we do somehow for this.

“And they don't have a problem, they just don't have a problem.”

Facebook removed the ‘harmful’ post by the US president, saying: “This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation.”

Twitter also banned Trump from the platform after he posted the same clip from the interview on his presidential campaign account @TeamTrump.

A Twitter spokesperson said: “The Tweet you referenced is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation. The account owner will be required to remove the Tweet before they can Tweet again.”

It appears the tweet has since been deleted.
