Ferrari have shut down production at both their Formula 1 and road-car factories for two weeks due to coronavirus.

The factories are based in Italy where there has been a country-wide quarantine to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Louis Camilleri, Ferrari's chief executive officer, said: "It is out of our respect for them [workers], their peace of mind and of their families that we have decided on this course of action."

Italy has been the worst affected country in Europe as they have had 1,441 deaths so far.

Ferrari are the only F1 team to shut production down despite not knowing when the motorsport season will begin.

Mercedes' two factories in the UK have not stopped, though two workers returning from Australia will be in self-isolation for two weeks.

The Australian Grand Prix was cancelled and the Bahrain and Vietnam races have both been postponed.

The suggested start date of the season is May 22 for the Monaco Grand Prix, though this has not been confirmed.
