Fleabag writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirms show will not return for third season

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, creator of hit TV series Fleabag, has confirmed the show will not return for a third season.

The 35 year-old, who also played the lead role in the series, received critical acclaim and widespread praise for the 12 episodes released between 2016 and 2019.

But Golden Globe-winner Waller-Bridge insisted there will not be any more Fleabag in the years to come.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: "I think we have to let her [Fleabag] go, she’s exhausted.

"She’s been through a lot. But we’re all going to work together again, so there will be something of the Fleabag spirit to come back."

After being a writer on E4 comedy show Drifters, Waller-Bridge’s first major creation was Channel 4’s comedy-drama Crashing in 2016.

Although the show received much praise, only one season was made.

But the London-born writer’s other major hit came in 2018 when she created and produced the BBC spy thriller Killing Eve.

Three seasons of the show have been released, but filming for the fourth series has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Waller-Bridge has also been brought in as one of the writers for the new James Bond film No Time To Die.

In doing so, she becomes just the second woman ever to be involved as a writer on a Bond movie.
