GMB’s Piers Morgan in spat with Dan Walker over BBC Breakfast’s ‘easy ride' interview with Matt Hancock

Piers Morgan has accused fellow TV presenter Dan Walker of giving Health Secretary Matt Hancock an ‘easy ride’ during an interview on the BBC Breakfast programme.

The Good Morning Britain host turned on Walker after airing part of the interview on the ITV show and telling viewers the Health Secretary had refused to appear on GMB.

He criticised Walker for not challenging Hancock over the Government’s failure to publish figures on Covid-19 testing, commenting ‘get in there Walker, for goodness sake man’.

Morgan also said Hancock was talking ‘complete nonsense’ and questioned: "What are you talking about Health Secretary?"

He added: "He's [Walker’s] getting the interviews because he won't jump in."

The BBC man was quick to respond, tweeting: "It is essential that politicians are allowed to speak. The idea (from some) that we, and others, don’t challenge ministers is completely untrue.

"Important to ask questions. Important to press. Important to let you listen. Thanks for watching."

The GMB host also took to Twitter later in the morning to reply to Walker’s tweet and said: "Mate, you blew it. Calm down."

The ITV show has not been granted a government minister for interview for over 60 days.
