Golf star Michelle Wie West named assistant captain for USA’s Solheim Cup 2021 team

Golf star Michelle Wie West has been named as an assistant captain for Team USA ahead of the 2021 Solheim Cup.

West, 30, is the 2014 US Women’s Open champion and has five LPGA titles to her name.

She has also been part of the USA Solheim Cup team five times and will join Angela Stanford who was previously announced as an assistant captain by skipper Pat Hurst.

Hurst, 51, said: "Naming Michelle as an assistant captain was an incredibly easy decision for me.

"She reached out to see if she could be involved with the team, and I quickly knew that I wanted her as one of my assistants.

"She’s out there playing with the younger players, and since I’ve been off the Tour for a while, that’s a crucial asset for me to have, first with Angela and now with Michelle.

“I can’t wait to work with this team as we look forward to our week at Inverness Club next year.”

Team USA will battle it out against Team Europe at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio on September 4-6 in 2021.
