England golfer Georgia Hall got a strange request when she went to Buckingham Palaceto receive her MBE.

"Prince Charles presented the honour to me and asked me for golf lessons,” said Hall. “I was hoping it would be either Charles or Harry. 

“It’s amazing to have the MBE and to be recognized for my achievements, but for women’s golf I think it’s massive to be recognised in this way,” she added.

Hall  made it a family affair by taking her mother, grandmother and boyfriend, Harry Tyrrell, who is also her caddie, along to the palace.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the letter and it’s such an amazing honour and very cool to have that after my name,” said the Bournemouth golfer.

The 23-year-old, who was a member of the European team that famously claimed victory over the United States in the Solheim Cup in September, added the gong to her ever growing trophy cabinet that includes the title at the Ricoh Women's British Open in 2018, her first season on the LPGA tour. 

In claiming the title she became the first Englishwoman to win a major since Karen Stupples won the same title in 2004.

Ladies European Tour CEO Mark Lichtenhein praised the young golfer on her award, saying: “Everyone at the LET is absolutely delighted for Georgia who is a superb ambassador for the game of golf and the Ladies European Tour."

The accolade means she joins an exclusive list of female golfers who have received royal honours including Laura Davies DBE and Solheim Cup winning captain Catriona Matthew MBE.
