Harlequins and Leinster face each other in historic first women's club game at Twickenham

Harlequins are set to play a historical match as they face Leinster for the first time at Twickenham Stadium.

The match is taking place on December 28 and it will be the first time in England women's rugby history that a club game has been played at Twickenham.

The event, named 'Big Game 12', will feature as a double header with Harlequins men who will be playing Leicester Tigers in the Gallagher Premiership.

Leinster's head coach Ben Armstrong said: “This is a hugely unique and historic event for girls' and women’s rugby in Leinster and the whole squad of players and staff can’t wait for it."

Leinster's captain and former Harlequins player Sene Naoupu said: "This is hugely historic. I’m excited for the province, for rugby in Ireland and also really excited for Harlequins, as a former player there myself.

"We’re incredibly proud to have the support from Adidas for this particular event. We’re excited and we’ll be training hard to make sure it’s a top game.”

Harlequins captain Rachael Burford said: "We're always buzzing for the big games that are happening so to be part of the Big Game 12 we are really excited.

"It's a great opportunity to play against a strong Irish province."
