JJ Watt and Kealia Ohai donate $350,000 to Houston Food Bank amid coronavirus outbreak

Sporting power couple J.J. Watt and Kealia Ohai have donated $350,000 to the Houston Food Bank in a bid to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The amount pledged by the NFL and NWSL stars will provide at least a million meals for those in need.

This is not the first charitable act by Watt, who in 2017 won the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award after raising $41.6 million to help the victims of the Houston floods.

The award recognises a player who has performed exceptionally both on and off the field, through their performance for their team as well as charitable and volunteer work.

Other athletes have also stepped forward with Houston Astros' star George Springer donating $100,000 to help Minute Maid Park (where his team play their home games) employees while no events are being held.

Watt, 30, and Ohai, 28 were married in the Bahamas in February, a wedding described by the quarter-back as 'the best day of my life'.
