Joanne Calderwood fainted backstage following her loss to Jennifer Maia at last night’s UFC Vegas 5.

According to her manager Danny Rubenstein, Calderwood’s partner John Wood caught the Scottish star as she slumped.

Rubenstein told MMA Fighting : “She’s okay now. She was getting checked out in the medical room and fainted while sitting down. John caught her, they laid her down and carted her out on a stretcher.

“Heart rate dropped on the way there but stabilized now. She’s awake at the hospital with Wood.”

The 33 year-old flyweight was lined up to fight Valentina Shevchenko but the Peruvian dropped out due to a leg injury, and after Maia’s opponent Viviane Araujo tested positive for Covid-19, Calderwood stepped in last minute.

But during the fight she suffered a submission loss to Maia after getting caught in an armbar in the opening round.
