Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

8 min: Route one from Bristol City as Daniels plays a long ball up for Salmon to chase in behind and she’s almost onto it but for Lisa Weiss to sprint off her line and snuff out the danger.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

11 min: Follis brings the ball clear on the break but it’s a poor pass and Daniels is able to intercept. But the Bristol City defender then relinquishes possession straight away once more and the hosts are pinned in again by Villa.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

13 min: Asante gives the ball away and Bristol City are again direct in feeding the ball towards Salmon straight through the middle. Weiss is out smartly again and gets a toe to the ball just in front of The Robins’ striker as the pair collide.

Danger averted but a warning sign for Villa as to the pace of Salmon there.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

15 min: Salmon at the heart of everything good for Bristol City in the early stages here as she holds the ball up brilliantly and wins a corner.

It’s whipped in dangerously by Purfield after a short one-two and Villa scrappily clear inside the six-yard box when it looked for a moment as if a Bristol head may have got there first.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

17 min: The home side are really growing into this one now. Humphrey finds some space down the right and looks to beat her marker but she just runs it out of play. Really high press from Bristol City in the last five minutes or so.

After a strong opening ten, Villa now look on the back foot.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

20 min: Bristol City win a free-kick just inside the Villa half which Purfield whips in but hits the first man. It drops for Salmon who has a go from distance but it spins wide and actually stays in play.

Follis then breaks and looks to slide Hayles in but Baggaley is out to collect the ball.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

22 min: These do look like two sides struggling with confidence. Particularly in the final third.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

24 min: When Bristol City are defending there is no one within 40 yards of Salmon. Not sure I’ve ever seen a better example of being ‘isolated up front’ as this. She’s making a good fist of competing against four defenders, though.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

26 min: Villa full-back Ale tries a cross-field ball into the box but it’s aimless and drifts poorly out for a goal kick. Not a great deal of cutting edge in this match so far. Still waiting our first real clear cut chance.

Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

28 min: First effort on target! It’s a tame one but it is one. Petzelberger whips in towards Ewers but the header is down into the ground and straight at Baggaley.

Moments later Hayles looks to be through on goal but Baggaley is out brilliantly to dive in front of the Villa striker and hold onto the ball. Great goalkeeping.
