45+2 min: Ji sends a delightful ball into the middle and Kerr rises brilliantly to meet it with her head but it’s straight down the throat of Roebuck.

HALF-TIME: That’s half-time. A dominant 45 minutes from the champions culminates in them going into the break with the lead thanks to a penalty from Mjelde.

Worth noting Mewis was booked just before the end of the half. (In case she is sent off later and you pull me up for not mentioning her caution).

46 min: Ready for another 45? Thought as much. Here we go!

47 min: City showing intent in the early stages of the second half as they press Chelsea all over the pitch. They need to find some more aggression from what they showed in the first 45.

49 min: Chelsea are playing more direct at the start of this second half. Reiten finds Kirby and she looks for Kerr over the top but it’s cut out by Houghton.

Chelsea playing with a higher line as well now. Very condensed in that midfield.

50 min: CHANCE! Falls to Cuthbert on the edge of the area and she fizzes a low shot in and it flies narrowly wide of Roebuck’s right-hand post. Close to game over.

52 min: Nearly brilliant! Chelsea break with superb pace and precision. Harder finds Kirby and the England international then plays a delightful one-two with Cuthbert to send her clear of the Manchester City defence.

She stands up a cross for Kerr at the back post but the Aussie’s looping effort is over the top.

Scintillating stuff from the champions.

53 min: Kirby picks up the pieces again and finds Kerr once more. She can’t find space for a shot, lays it off to Ji who also doesn’t pull the trigger. Another chance goes begging as City clear.

Only criticism of Chelsea is they do overplay it sometimes.

56 min: CHANCE! Oh, that should have been two! Lucy Bronze gets it horribly wrong as she fails to clear the ball and Erin Cuthbert nicks it from her. The Chelsea forward is through on goal but she leans back and fires just over the bar. Had to do better!

57 min: GOAL! Sam Kerr doesn’t miss those!

Like a knife through butter Fran Kirby sends a low cross into the box from the right hand side and gifts Sam Kerr a tap in from six yards.

That was clinical and calculated football that Manchester City simply could not live with.
